Employee Rank 18: DeadRabbit's Cheatsheet

Let's say that you are a mage under level 20.

And you know that you are "border collie artillerist" but technically so are Hunters, Warlocks, and etc.

What do you, uber mageness personified, bring to the table at this point?

1. We are friendly little buggers (or "not a Warlock")

Food! We are the PTA parents of groups: we bring baked goods! "Oh dear, you are looking a little peaked. Could I offer you a muffin or perhaps a glass of fresh spring water?"

Remove Lesser Curse: did you just get hitched with a nasty curse? Mage at your service. "Oooh that looks like it smarts. Let me get that off of ya."

Arcane Intellect: Use mana? Want a buff? Here you go. Okay Warriors and Rogues, I know this one doesn't apply to you. Here have another muffin.

2. Crowd Control:

The first two spells are about incapacitating a mob:

Polymorph: A spell that is just plain cool: the Boogey Man is transformed into a placid sheep for up to 30 seconds.

Frost Nova: Roots nearby mobs in place for up to 8 seconds.

The second two spells are about slowing a mob down:

Frostbolt: This slows an individual mob's movement speed: by 40% for 6 seconds.

Frost Armor All right, this spell can be a little wonky in terms of crowd control: "If an enemy strikes the caster, they may have their movement slowed by 30% and the time between their attacks increased by 25% for 5 sec." Keyword being *may* but still qualifies as *possible* CC.

3. AoE:

What is an Area of Effect spell?:
"Area of Effect, or AoE, affect multiple targets within a pre-determined radius set by the game mechanics."(2) A good way to imagine an AoE is like casting a fishing net onto a mob: anything caught in the circle of that net is going to get some damage.

Arcane Explosion Causes an explosion of arcane magic around the caster, causing 32 to 36 Arcane damage to all targets within 10 yards. Oh and it is an instant cast.

Flamestrike: Calls down a pillar of fire, burning all enemies within the area for 52 to 68 Fire damage and an additional 48 Fire damage over 8 sec. Within 30 yards but with a three second cast. Flamestrike is more powerful than Arcane Explosion and has a larger radius (30 yards as opposed to 10) but it also has a 3 second cast.

Frost Nova Remember this baby from CC? Besides rooting your mob in place, it also blasts enemies near the caster for 19 to 21 Frost damage. This is known as spell multi-tasking.

3. Artillery:

These spells do not affect multiple targets when cast. You shoot, you hit one target. These spells are all about some serious hurt being laid down on an individual nasty:

Arcane Missiles Launches Arcane Missiles at the enemy, causing 36 Arcane damage every 1 sec for 4 sec.

Frostbolt Launches a bolt of frost at the enemy, causing 51 to 57 Frost damage (and don't forget it's CC properties).

Fireball Hurls a fiery ball that causes 84 to 116 Fire damage and an additional 12 Fire damage over 8 sec.

Fireblast: Instant cast! Blasts the enemy for 57 to 71 Fire damage. Ka-pow!

This next section is how a mage can save their own ass. In other words, this is for soloing (Don't you dare ditch your group....go down with the ship, kids. But if you are on your own? Save your ass).

5. Escape enemies: Crowd control can give you enough time to run, bunny, run.

Frost Nova: Freeze that mob and then run.

Polymorph: Sheep that mob and then run.

6. Defense:

As a clothie, you need a little armor and these spells are it:

Frost Armor This spell was described under CC. But we didn't mention that it increases armor by 110 and last for 30 minutes.

Arcane Intellect Intellect increased by 7 for 30 minutes.

Dampen Magic Facing a magic caster? Pop this spell: Dampens magic used against the targeted party member, decreasing damage taken from spells by up to 10 and healing spells by up to 20. Lasts 10 min. (If you happen to be facing a warlock....throw a "nyah, nyah, nyah" at them too).

Slow Fall Got a Light Feather in your bag? Then you can fall from a height and not die. (However you've got 30 seconds and after that: you fall like a rock. Splat!)

Pssst...buddy....I got your limited supply right here.

Chester here folks. Heart of gold squirrel at your service. I'm not just a furry rodent hiding the nuts for myself and myself only. I'm a giver. I'm thinking about a few nuts rolling YOUR way.

So DeadRabbit gave you a tip on Deviate fish farming. She's a good girl. (I worry about her fishing though....the fish yank on the line and sometimes her arms go with it. She laughs it off. But she's not the one sent after the arms. Oy, the undead! They are sweethearts but a little casual with the "loosely attached" body parts. Bit loosely attached in the head sometimes....you know what I mean? Okay but I digress....Back to the topic at hand). Consider this "tip #2 for some nice cheddar in the wallet and change in the pocket." I present to you the joy of "limited supply" recipes and items.

Limited supply are items or recipes sold by vendors in small quantities. If those items are bought then the vendor is "out" of the item until it respawns. What's this mean for the enterprising young player? Well you can provide a service for those too busy (or lazy, or disinterested, or...shhhh....stupid) to wait for a respawn. Buy up those limited supply recipes and items and sell 'em on the AH.

Okay now, don't go *nuts* over this (hehehe...humour me, I'm a squirrel, nut jokes make me laugh). Don't glut the market with these recipes and items: you'll kinda defeat the purpose of limited supply and ultimately decrease their AH value.

Who sells these items? Well, in any major city, just go around to the vendors and pick up the stuff that has a number listed in its display. But you are probably going to make the best money on vendors who sell these items and are not in a major city. Plus it means some exploring and adventuring for you if you go looking for them. DeadRabbit, at level 11, went to Duskwood to buy the goblin jumper cable recipe from Kzixx. (How'd she get there...only dying once...at level 11? She's working on a map for ya). Bought the recipe for 20s or so....sold about 3 for 1g 50s or so.

Best site for finding out where to find those recipes is Kaliope's Crafter's Tome. Ooooh aaaah, this is a site that makes a acorn-hoarding squirrel's heart beat faster....all that information gathered together in one place. Check it out. Plus if you look up a recipe, in the notes section, she'll tell you if it is a limited supply item.

Gotta another nugget for ya. This gal complicates the matter: selling "faction specific" items on the neutral Auction House. She says she makes a good profit but so far anything I've posted on the neutral AH just sits there....for a long time....whistling in the emptiness.....wishing it had friends.

One last thing from your dutch uncle here, I'm not suggesting you camp these vendors, kids. Don't let the cobwebs grow on ya. Azeroth is for the stout of heart...for those with some spunk. Make yourself some cash, buy some good gear and then get out there.

Go kick some butt for Chester. Ok?

You can do better than spamming trade chat

Pox Arcanum, aka the Grand Experiment or the Anti-Pug, had a few starting rules:

1. we all leveled a new alt on a server we didn't have other alts on.
2. we leveled as a group.

How has this worked out in practice? We divided ourselves up into smaller groups: Purple Poxers, Green Poxed, Black Pox, and YELLOW POXLESS (no bias, girl scout's honor). Five poxers grouped together to take on instances/quests. If the rest of your group has dinged oh let's say 12...ya can't go out and merrily level yourself to 15 on your own. Gotta stay right at or below 12.

So new server, no cash and no leveling/xp farming? Whaddya do when you log on as your lonesome and not part of your group? You find a way to make some money and to level up your professions (hmmm...I guess technically you could also goof around, spam trade chat, make up Chuck Norris jokes, or dance on a mailbox...but that ain't DeadRabbits style).

We want to get some change in our pockets and some cheddar in our wallets!

This has meant that a number of Poxers have become quite proficient on flipping items on the AH, fishing for cash, leveling their profession and creating items that will sell, etc. I figured I'd pass along some of the ways I've come up with getting a pretty good chunk o' change as a level 12 with no backer.

Let's start with fishing!! Thoreau said, "Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after." You can say "ha! and double ha!!" to Thoreau...you know what you are after. Fishing that will bring you some solid cash. I have a suggestion for a low-level World of Warcarft alt: fish for Deviate Fish.

First, make your way to Ratchet (easy-peasy if you are Horde, a bit harder if you are low-level Alliance but you can do it). From Ratchet, make your way to the Forgotten Pools (don't bother with the two other pools that the Deviate Fish hang out in....there be mean, nasty turtles in those pools that don't play nice). Here' s a map with the route I took from Ratchet to the Forgotten Pools. (DeadRabbit wrote the directions...her handwriting is plain awful...but when you are decomposing, handwriting is the least of your concerns).

Oh sure, pre-level 12, I had to do some ducking and weaving. There's lions and raptors and centaurs...but they can be avoided. The Forgotten Pool has NO turtles acting like piranhas. And usually there are "pools of deviate fish" which yield a higher rate of deviate fish than just fishing open water.

Why all this trouble to get a particular fish? The detailed explanation is here. But let's cut to the chase, I've been selling stacks of 20 Deviate fish for about five gold. Boo-ya!!

Till then, I'll be zenning out with the fishies.
